This simple device not only serves as a wine thief but also functions as a test tube by allowing a hydrometer to be placed directly into it! Simply dip the tube into the liquid and the floating valve will allow liquid to enter the testing chamber. Once the wine thief is removed from the fermenter, the valve closes to retain the sample in the test tube. The brewer or wine maker can than analyze the sample or take a hydrometer reading by inserting a hydrometer into the top of the tube. The sample can then be gently added back to the fermenter to avoid waste by inserting it back into the fermenter and touching the interior of the vessel with the tip of the sampler.
